Mobile Number Portability (MNP) gives mobile phone users the ability to move to another mobile network and still retain their number (MSISDN).

Where can I go to request a port to MTN?

  • Any MTN Service Centre.

  • Any MTN Dealership.

  • Call MTN Direct (083 123 3667 or 083 123 DOOR)

  • Corporate clients can contact MTN Corporate Sales.
During the port process, you can decide whether to port to a prepaid or a post-paid account, based on your requirements.

A prepaid customer will need a CLI validation to ensure the number being ported is in the customer’s possession. Post-paid customers will need to provide the following:

  • The Account Number at the Donor.

  • The Identity Number of the Account Holder.

  • Numbers belonging to a company will require written  permission from the Company.
When can the port take place?

The port can be requested during the following hours:
09h00 to 17h00 on Mondays to Fridays (Sundays and public holidays excluded)
09h00 to 13h00 on Saturdays (public holidays excluded)

If the port request is received outside of the hours listed above, the request will be queued until the next available porting day, and will be actioned then. The actual port will take place during Network Synchronisation time (NST) as follows:

22h30 to 23h30 on all days except public holidays.
Should the port request be received in time on a particular day and the response from the Donor is accepted, you should be able to port on the same day that the request is made. Ports can also be scheduled for up to 30 days from the date of the request.
