What is RICA? 

RICA or the Regulation of Interception of Communication Act is a new government law that makes it compulsory for everyone to register all new and existing cellphone numbers. RICA is one of government’s key crime prevention initiatives towards making South Africa a safer place to live and work. 

Who must RICA? 

RICA affects everyone. It affects all our customers including new and existing MTN PayAsYouGo and Contract customers. This includes telemetry SIM cards in tracking devices and data SIM cards used in smartphones, laptops, modems, etc. Even if we already have your ID and home address, you still need to go to an MTN Store and register your MTN SIM cards. 

Where can I RICA? 

MTN PayAsYouGo customers can register their SIM cards for free at any MTN branded or retail store where there is a RICA agent.

MTN Contract customers can register their SIM cards for free by visiting an MTN branded store which is usually found in shopping malls and centres around the country. 

Remember to take along your ID and proof of residence!
