As a registered member, you can send up to five SMS messages to any MTN subscriber per day using the email address you set up when registering. Please note that only this email address can be used for sending free SMS messages.
Sending an SMS message:
Each MTN subscriber has an email address corresponding to his/her cellphone number. This address looks as follows: cellphonenumber@sms.co.za.
Send the email using this ‘email’ address, and remember that you only have 160 characters per SMS, including your subject line.
Replying to an SMS message:
Recipients of the Email2SMS will reply to the SMS as usual. This will be delivered to the inbox of the original sender.
This is a free service to all MTN subscribers. Recipients of the Email2SMS who reply are charged at standard SMS rates as per the user’s price plan.
Using abbreviations and alternative spellings is well suited to this service, as it helps keep a longer message down to the required 160 characters.
