| A | International Roaming is a system that allows you to use your personal phone overseas, utilising your MTN Service Provider contract. MTN has signed Roaming Agreements with over 146 Countries and 334 Networks worldwide and roaming with your MTN phone is only possible if MTN has an agreement with the Network of the country being visited.
International Unbarring takes place when you want to make international calls from your phone. That is, placing calls from South Africa to any country in the world. This service is available 24 hours a day and the calls can be made to satellite phones. |
| A | Many of our client's have family and loved ones living in another country and need to stay in regular contact. If you are one of these people, you can request International Dialling which will enable you at any time of day to place a call overseas.
Your application will be considered based on the age and status of your account with MTN Service Provider. In certain circumstances a deposit will be required - this is refundable in full to you three months after the international dialling is deactivated on your account. |
| A | When travelling abroad, many people enjoy the safety and security of travelling
with a phone. WIth International Roaming you can make and receive calls from
your own phone and MTN Service Provider contract anywhere in the world!
MTN has agreements with over 100 countries worldwide to allow you to take your
personal phone while travelling abroad. Certain countries operate on a different
frequency network so your phone will not work there but your SIM card will.
You would then need to obtain a phone that is either 'tri-band', 'dual-band'
or you will need to use one of the local phones in that country.
You would need to make a written request one week prior to departure. This
request can only be made on a standard International Roaming/Unbarrng form.
Please allow for a minimum of five working days before leaving on your trip.

| A | International calls are billed in conjunction with Telkom international rates as well as the regular cellphone rate per minute. This means that, depending on the Price Plan you are on, it can be expensive to call internationally. If you use your phone overseas, you are charged for both making and receiving calls. The person calling you will pay the standard MTN rate but you are liable for the international connection of the call. |
| A | You can now send SMS's to overseas networks and the message will be billed as an international SMS. You don't even need a special Message Centre Number to send the message through. All you do is send it to the international cellphone number. There are however countries which do not allow messages from the MTN Network through. MTN do not, however, guarantee that your SMS messages to International numbers will be delivered. |
| A | All inbound calls will be listed only as a reference number, you will unfortunately not be able to get the callers details. This is due to the International Confidentiality Agreement. The only method of getting this information is by making an application to The Hague (International Court), and all related costs will be for the applicant, whether successful or not. |
| A | To access your voicemail box whilst roaming you need to dial +27
83 100 0000. All calls to your Voicemail box (+27
83 100 0000) are billed as an international call from your location to
South Africa. Alternatively you can dial *111# to
access our international voicemail CallBack service, which is more cost effective. |
| A | You need to fill in international roaming forms (please route user to the form) to have the service activated. Remember that international calls do not get depleted from your rand value airtime - you get charged per the country rates you are visiting. You get charged for incoming and outgoing calls, and calls routed to voicemail. To view rates per different country go to www.mtn.co.za, go to travel and roaming partners. If your contract is less than three months, a deposit of R500 will be required which is refundable after 12 weeks. |
